Mosul attack

By now you have likely heard what Drudge headlined as the Deadliest Raid on Coalition: “A 122mm rocket slammed into a mess tent Tuesday at a military base near the northern city of Mosul, ripping through the ceiling and spraying shrapnel as U.S. soldiers sat down to lunch. Officials said 22 people were killed in one of the most devastating attacks against Americans in Iraq since the start of the war.”

The elections are nearing, so is the level of desperation among anti government terrorists and insurgents. Taking a brief sweep through a few Iraqi blogs, the only post that appeared to address this attack was written by Ays at Iraq at a glance:

“What's going on in Iraq, my parent called and said that the situation is getting worse everyday, no electricity, petrol, gas, and the terrorists are threatening to bomb the elections' centers especially the Shia ones. If the situation continues like that, I think the elections must be postponed.”

Unfortunately after noting the date at the bottom, this was published on Dec 8, I imagine Ays didn’t have a change of heart after Tuesday. What are we gonna do?

Well, we're NOT going to postpone the elections, we're not going to retire Donald Rumsfeld, and we ARE going to keep fighting, this enemy doesn't deserve the alternatives. But the $650,000,000,000 question is - does Iraq really want freedom? America can have enough resolve to go around the world three times, but we can’t win this one without the hearts and minds, blood sweet and tears of the Iraqi people. If they want it, they’re going to need to pay a price for it, like all nations do, this stuff isn’t free, or cheap. Call me a hopless romantic, but I believe they have what it takes to get their country back. God bless the families of the hero's who fell.
